Teachers in Jacksonville have to work 23 years to reach the nation’s average.
My dear, you and your friends needs to move out of that state. Truly, they chew up and spit out anyone who wants to earn a buck so they can cater to the snowbirds there. There are states much better. May I suggest the northeast? We're still dealing with the insanity but at least we're not being used as slaves.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think the state lowered the Teacher Certification requirements. You used to have 36 credit hours in a discipline before you could sit for the exam. Now you could have an art history degree and teach advanced placement physics with calculus with no physics classes on their transcript. The teacher has 2 years to pass the certification exam. In that time, how many students get messed up? The certification exam cut scores are the lowest I have ever seen. That is why Florida does not use the Praxis exam, formerly the NTE (National Teachers Exam). Why do you think Florida accepts all other state's teaching credentials, but most states do not accept Florida's. This change occured during the Jeb Bush administration. In many states, if you do not have student teaching experience under a program from a college or university you need not apply. No on the job training. Go to the PA department of Ed and see. For every one opening there are over 500 applicants. You have to literally wait for some one to die to open a space. Here over 50 percent leave before 5 years. Enough Said.
