Jacksonville grows by 59 percent the school system by 5

A recent editorial in the Times Union aid as much. A study last year said as private school and home school enrollment dropped throughout the state it was on the rise in Jacksonville. More and more people are choosing alternatives to the Duval County public school system.

Former Mayor Peyton once said we are a great school system away from being a world-class city. Why aren’t businesses fighting to get here? The chamber of commerce says it’s our school system.

We have pockets of greatness in our schools and there are without a doubt great things happening at out struggling schools too but overall what we’re doing isn’t working and the state as much confirmed that when it ranked us 50th out of 67.

We need to go in a different direction, and we need new leadership that believes in rigor, discipline, accountability and that teachers are our number one resource, not easily replaceable cogs, to take us there.
