When Wright and Couch were elected I was very optimistic. They both have classroom experience and up till them that was something the board had seriously lacked. However up till now their term on the board had been very disappointing to say the least. That was why I was encouraged Tuesday night at the school board meeting as the pair finally started showing signs of life.
They both questioned Education Direction, the EMO which was brought in to manage our Intervene Schools and if they have been effective or not. Their main criticism was the information they received to make this determination did not arrive until the day they were scheduled to vote on giving them 1.2 million dollars or not. Usually the board just rubber-stamps whatever the superintendent puts in front of them and I have serious concerns that they don't do their due diligence before doing so. However in this case Wright and Couch's concerns caused the measure to be tabled.
There are big changes on the horizon for the school board an district and it was refreshing to see these ladies show a little independence from the rest of the board and the super. I just wish it had come a little sooner. I also hope they show some more skepticism and when the matter comes back up and vote against Ed Directions.
