We have had millionaire school board members before, W.C. Gentry comes to mind but I think its safe to say the board at least financially is doing a lot better than the parents they represent and maybe that leads to some of the disconnect.

These people are so disconnected overall. Unless you have worked in public schools, and struggling public schools at that, you just don't get it. Even parents think they know because they were students and have students in school right now or in the past or whatever. What sucks is that people who have money think they worked so much harder than everyone else to get it, so they should have a say in every public sphere. Every school board member should have to substitute for at least a week, but only in the turnaround schools (middle schools especially). Things would change so quickly. Why not have everyone downtown sub for at least a day? It would give amazing perspective.
