The politicization of local heath departments to harm children

Florida, Florida, Florida, you have really lost your way. I mean it was terrible before with how you always sided with big business over citizens and undermined your public schools but politicizing health departments to force kids into dangerous situations, really takes the cake.

I am just going to get to it, from the Palm Beach Post,

The school board’s chairman said he believed the health director had been ‘politically silenced by Tallahassee.’

I purposely left that big.

More from CBS 12,

Barbieri also mentioned that the board's decision has been made more complicated since the state ordered schools to re-open in person, five days per week. He says that the county Health Director, Dr. Alina Alonso initially recommended that schools remain closed, but refused to elaborate on her decision when the board asked her to write a letter explaining her concerns.

"She got a call from the Surgeon General in the state of Florida that told her to keep her mouth shut and not speak about it," Barbieri said. "Several other health directors around the state got the same call that they should not get involved with the school district’s decisions whether or not to reopen schools." Barbieri suggested it is difficult to make an informed decision under these circumstances.
"She doesn’t want to do her job because she’s being politically silenced by Tallahassee. It's shameful," he said. "I don’t blame her, although she’s got a job to do and she should’ve done her job. But it’s shameful that Tallahassee would ask her to stay out of the mix when by their own order we’re supposed to get her input before we decide on what to do here."
Who wants to bet the Palm Beah director of health wasn't the only one talked too?

I guess DeSantis could say he learned it from watching the president who has been attempting sideline the CDC.

From NPR,

The Trump Administration has mandated that hospitals sidestep the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and send critical information about COVID-19 hospitalizations and equipment to a different federal database.

From the start of the pandemic, the CDC has collected data on COVID-19 hospitalizations, availability of intensive care beds and personal protective equipment. But hospitals must now report that information to the Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees the CDC.

The change sparked concerns among infectious disease and health care experts that the administration was hobbling the ability of the nation's public health agency to gather and analyze crucial data in the midst of a pandemic.

Sigh,

And in case you think this is an isolated event.

Told to delete coronavirus information.

Told to hide COVID data

Data disappearing,

Friends, when did protect the lives of children become political? Not being able to trust our health leaders is probably even more dangerous than the pandemic.

I don't know what else to say.
