As Pence says to ignore the CDC, the CDC says America is in for some super dark times

Oh my gosh, this is surreal. You couldn't sell this as a screenplay because Holywood would say it was too unbelievable.

Vice president Pence yesterday said CDC recommendations should not stop anyone from opening schools.

From WWLTV.com,
Pence was blunt Tuesday in dismissing those guidelines in favor of a quick reopening.
"To be very clear, we don't want CDC guidance to be a reason why people don't reopen their schools," he said.
He pointed to possible lower risk factors among children for catching coronavirus, which could make them poor vectors for virus transmission.

Um has Pence never met a kid or seen a school? Mr. Vice Presidnet they have these things called parents and teachers who are both adults.

Plus, there is plenty of anecdotal evidence that he is wrong.

Shortly before Pence was telling people to ignore the CDC Director, Redfield said we are in for some super dark times.

From CNN,

Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said he thinks "the fall and the winter of 2020 and 2021 are going to be the probably one of the most difficult times that we experienced in American public health."

Gulp, but for some reason, Redfield thinks as long as we do masks, schools should open.

From Fox40.com,

Getting children back to in-person learning is important for their social well-being — but the key to reopening classrooms during the coronavirus pandemic is masks, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday.
Dr. Robert Redfield, speaking during a Buck Institute webinar, said everyone should work together to find common ground for reopening in a way that is safe and comfortable with people. He said the CDC is presenting options for school systems, and will release some additional resources this week on how to reopen schools.
One of the resources will look at “how to really take advantage of face coverings,” Redfield said. “Because to me, face coverings are the key. If you really look at it, the data is really clear, they work.”
Yay, masks, sounds great, I am a big believer, but apparently, Redfield has never met a kid either. We can say wear masks until we are blue in the face, but that's going to be a challenge for a lot of children.
Ugh.
All this was happening as 70 percent of parents said, whoa, maybe we should pump the breaks on going back during a raging pandemic.

From the Hill,

A large majority of American parents in a new poll said they view having their children return to in-person school in the fall as a moderate or large risk.
In the Axios-Ipsos Coronavirus Index poll, 71 percent of parents said that sending their kids back to school is either a large or moderate risk to their own health. Similarly, 51 percent of parents said that they are either very or extremely worried about sending their children back to school in the coming months, while 23 percent said that they are somewhat concerned. Just 14 percent said they are not very concerned and 9 percent said that they are not concerned at all.
Pence says schools should open regardless of the CDC. The CDC says this fall we are in for one of the most difficult times in public health, um what have been in? Everyone wants to be back in school. Everyone thinks being in school is the best way to go. Unfortunately, the reality is opening schools will spread the virus, cause them to close and cost lives. So why would we risk lives when we have a viable option that we proved worked? Why?
