Lenny Curry's reckless behavior is going to cost lives (draft)

I said to the district official, well, several south Florida districts have ignored the state's order and said they are starting school on-line why couldn't we? They said the cities those districts are in have rolled back to phase 1, and we are in phase 2, which gives them the cover to do so.  This is the thing mayor Curry would have to roll us back into phase 1, but I can't see that happening because he has chosen party politics over people's lives.

I have to say I was shocked when Curry declared a mandatory though toothless mask in public order, but at the same time, I was pretty sure it would be lifted a day or two before the Republican Party's national convention.

Against all reason, Curry went after the convention, which at the time would have brought tens of thousands of people to our town during a pandemic. I say at its height because things have changed.

From the Hill,

Republicans announced Thursday they will scale back the Republican National Convention in August as coronavirus cases rise in Florida, where President Trump is expected to deliver a speech accepting his party's nomination for reelection.
Ronna Romney McDaniel, the chairwoman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), informed members of the decision in a letter on Thursday that blamed the pandemic for the changes.
The letter states that admittance to the convention in Jacksonville, Fla., will be limited only to regular delegates for the first three days, amounting to a crowd of about 2,500 people. Trump shifted the site of the celebration from North Carolina to Florida when it appeared the Jacksonville site might allow for large gatherings.
McDaniel wrote that when Trump formally accepts the GOP nomination on the event's final day, delegates will be allowed to bring one guest and alternate delegates will also be allowed to attend. That crowd would be capped at about 6,000 or 7,000 people.

The convention has gone from 40 thousand attendees to 6 or 7 thousand.

Why? Because the coronavirus is out of control in Florida.

Yesterday Florida had 156 deaths, shattering the record set way back on Tuesday, which smashed the record set way back last Thursday.

This is the thing deaths lad about six weeks behind cases.

So six weeks ago our 7-day average was about 1200, now our 7-day averages are over ten thousand, and Jacksonville is right in the thick of it.

You know it's one thing to keep restaurants open at 50 percent capacity, and it is another thing to open schools which we all know our Petri dishes.

The long and short of it is Jacksonville will never roll back into phase one with the RNC convention coming to town. That not protecting the city's children is the Mayor's priority.

After yesterday's meeting, I am convinced the board would close our schools to in-school learning, and they would do it quickly if they could get a little help from the mayor. Unfortunately, Curry is to busy playing politics, and that's going to cost lives. Like he did last summer when he fought against the referendum when given a choice between helping the citizens of Jacksonville and big wigs in his party, Curry chooses the big wigs.

If you are as outraged by his behavior as I am, maybe drop him a line.
